  • Google is expected to unveil the follow-up to Lollipop at the I/O event in a few days and till then there’s a lot of speculation to discuss and debunk. First of all we learned a potential new codename for Android M, that may end up being called Macadamia Nut Cookie (MNC).

The name was already referenced in the AOSP, but odds are that this is just the internal codename. That’s what happened to Android L, called “Lemon Meringue Pie” internally and KitKat, called “Key Lime Pie” internally. Android M isn’t expected to be a major update, instead focusing on improving what Lollipop brought. The design will most likely stay the same and the version number may be Android 5.2.

Expectations for Google I/O and Android M include extra features for Android Wear, especially fitness ones, new Android Auto functionality, more extras for Smart Home and Android TV. We may see a Google Glass 2.0, a finalized Project Ara and a unified fingerprint system applied all across the Android ecosystem.
