Ultimate Tennis Review (HTC One A9): possibly the best tennis game on Android, but also a very annoying title (Video)

Ultimate Tennis is a title I had a blast with on the HTC One A9, coming from 9M Interactive and being very, very sexist, among others. It features scantily clad women as players and very laggy menus, but once you get past that, you’ll enjoy the tennis experience a lot.
Available for free in the Play Store, the game positions itself as an arcade tennis game with a twist. Surprisingly it also has RPG elements, like items that offer perks, abilities that can be levelled up and trained and a ton of outfits, of course very sexy ones. Graphics look nice, a la 2006 console title, or even PS Vita style and each session requires you to win 4 points to claim the set and match (15, 30, 40 and final point).
There’s PVP action here, tournaments to complete and the control is very interesting. You can use a one hand control method, or a two hand one, with the latter including a virtual thumbstick on the left and on the right there’s an area that feels like the gears of a car. You swipe to a certain symbol to trigger a lob, slice or special move and you can also decide the level of strength used through a charging meter that appears on screen.
Each shot can be upgraded, as can the equipment, with extra perks for each racket, cap or skirt. There are also certain special levels, with targets to hit. Animations and graphics are hot, gameplay is fun, so don’t let the menus and sexism bother you too much. New players can be collected and even combined from what I saw. Ultimate Tennis should be a hit, especially if its problems are solved and I’m surprised more people haven’t heard of it.
We give it a 9.3 out of 10 and you can download it here.
