The Walking Dead No Man’s Land Review (Allview V2 Viper X): Possibly the Most Up to date Walking Dead Title, Feeling a bit Like X-Com (Video)

  • I’ve seen at least half a dozen solid Walking Dead games on Android over the past years, so I imagine that there are dozens of mediocre games out there related to the franchise. The Walking Dead No Man’s Land is up there with the quality titles and it’s available for free in the Play Store. We tested it on the Allview V2 Viper X, aka the Gionee Elife S Plus.

Launched in October, the game has the official endorsement from AMC, with notifications about new episodes that appear. Daryl Dickson will guide you through the game, serving as your tutorial guide. Turn based battles are available here, feeling a bit like the ones in the X-Com titles. The sad violin music is very nice and probably coming from the TV show.

You can build new parts of the camp, upgrade them and train survivors. You can equip them with weapons and armor and call on even more survivors by using radios. Sadly, there are only a few slots for those people, so you have to fit within limits. Graphics are pretty OK and the gameplay can be approached in a stealth mode or simply attacking all the zombies on the screen.

Sometimes more will come out of nowhere, so you have to pay attention. Using a drag and drop method you will draw a path for your characters, but the paths are limited, so they’d better not cross with those of zombies. Resources here are food, stars, gold and tickets and after the fights there are the lottery boxes, that hide resources or items.

There’s an energy meter, so this is a freemium game, by the way. Zombies hear you when you make noise, so you have to be careful. Each mission has a scavenging part, with trunks of car to open in order to find new items. You have to be very careful when assembling a team, that has to include a character with a knife, that instantly kills zombies, plus one with a sniper, that may kill several zombies in a row and one with a big bat, that stuns zombies.

I had a blast with this title and it’s pretty light on the base building part, focusing more on gameplay. We give it a solid 9 out of 10 and you can download it here.
