  • Cyanogen wants more than to provide you with a ROM to use on your rooted device and now they also want a piece of the Recovery part, thus they’re preparing something called Cyanogen Recovery. This will be a tool aimed at rivaling the likes of ClockWorkMod and TeamWin Recovery Project.

CyanogenMod has already been enough of a hit to become preinstalled on a few devices, ranging from Oppo models to OnePlus One and even Indian phones. Big players have also shown interest in buying CM, including Google, Yahoo and Microsoft. You probably know that people with root on their devices like to use CM and before being rooted there’s usually a need for an extra piece of software known as a custom recovery.

That one is required in order to be able to install custom ROMs. The custom recovery allows one to better control a rooted device and this means better backups and easier ROM flashing. ClockworkMod quickly became the tool of choice in this area, but there’s also TWRP. Cyanogen is working on a rival, a Recovery solution, but this doesn’t mean support for CWM or TeamWin’s Recovery Project will be dropped.

It’s very likely that users may choose the recovery they prefer.
