Dan The Man Review (ASUS ZenFone 3 ZE520KL): Possibly the Best Platformer of 2016 (Video)

It doesn’t happen very often that we find a game that has us fall in love with it after 3 or 4 levels. It’s a platformer called Dan The Man, available for free in the Play Store and played on the ASUS ZenFone 3 ZE520KL. It was released in early October and it’s totally old school.
Dan is the titular character here and he’ll be kicking and punching, plus using machine guns, guns and throwing stars, which can be picked up from the level. Enemies are quite varied and somehow they use special armors, that require you to attack them from the back instead of the front. Some characters shoot from the distance and there are also hardcore boss battles.
Levels are very long, but luckily we have checkpoints to save the day. Every once in a while you can watch a video and get a weapon and speaking of videos, the story of Dan The Man is explained through a series of videos published on the web. The graphics are old school, N64 style and the only thing lacking here is probably the double jump, but we do have jumping platforms.
You collect coins and fruit that boost your HP. The coins buy you upgrades, related to kick, punch power, life meter and all that. There are traps ahead of you, like spikes, pits and more, plus movable platforms to get to new areas. If you die, you can spend coins to revive or watch and ad. Unlockable characters are also available here, including Barry from JetPack Joyride, also made by Halfbrick, like this game.
Aside from the Story mode there’s also a challenge mode, that goes against a time limit and has you breaking vases and vanquishing foes. Exploding mines also pop up there. I had a blast playing this game, feeling like back in the days of the Mega Man craze on the GameBoy. It’s a 10 out of 10 title and you can get it here.
