  • Google just announced officially the LG Nexus 5 handset, that has been rumored for a very long time and leaked in every possible aspect. The big G also announced Android 4.4 KitKat and its full features are listed below.

As far as the Nexus 5 goes, the leaked specs were spot on and we’re dealing with a 5 inch HD handset here with a 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 800 CPU, 2 GB of RAM and an 8 megapixel camera at the back with OIS, plus a 2300 mAh battery. We’ve got a 4.95 inch Full HD screen on board and the whole thing weighs 130 grams.

It measures 8.59 mm in thickness and the device also packs WiFi, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, 16 or 32 GB of storage and as usual there’s no microSD card slot. We’ve got 2 GB of RAM and the usual package of accelerometer, compass, GPS, proximity sensor and gyroscope. By the way, the handset is LTE compatible, priced a $350 and starts shipping today.

As far as KitKat goes, Google wants this OS run fast and smooth even on older devices. This goes for units with as little as 512 MB of RAM, apparently. KitKat brings out the best in every component to reduce memory use. It also brings new platform support for NFC transactions via Host Card Emulation.

There’s also full support for Google Cloud Print, allowing you to easily print any type of content over WiFi or cloud services. Other novelties include a new storage access framework, low power sensors, a step counter and step detector, while on the aesthetics side we get a translucent system UI. Who’s psyched about this?
