  • I for one got the update to the new YouTube version on my Android device. And moments later after installing it I was still wondering: what am I missing! That is looking at the mighty peculiar “new” icon they have introduced for this new release of the so familiar video streaming service. One that is nowhere to be seen if you’re accessing the Store from your PC and searching for YouTube.

The new YouTube release takes the app to version 5.5.26 – coming from a 5.3.32. Besides the new icon with a dog bone right in the middle of the icon, things are more than OK in regards to the improvements it brings. Coming back to the bone people are wandering if Google didn’t accidentally release this new version in fact meant for internal testing. Seeing that is also called the “dogfooding” program, it’s obvious someone must have forgotten about changing the icon back to its more “natural” design. Other than that the new version brings:

    • Find videos, playlists and channels together in search results
    •  Tabs on channel pages, for activity, videos and playlists
    •  Various bug fixes and improvements, notably a fix for the Cast icon appearing over the player when Bluetooth is connected

You can get it from the Store or download the .apk file here.
