Hellrider Review (ASUS ZenFone 2): Nice Little Twist on Zigzag and Snow Roll, But With Even More (Ad)diction (Video)

Hellrider was one of the games I played on the ASUS ZenFone 2, a phone that’s very much prone for gaming, since it was the first with 4 GB of RAM. Well, this title isn’t exactly Doom 3, but it’s quite fun, in its own casual way. It’s available for free in the Play Store and feels like a combo of Snow Roll and Zigzag.
Launched in April this year, the game comes from Anji Games and it’s a one touch title, that features a biker that slams into skeletons. You need to avoid obstacles and do some boss fights, plus launch grenades every once in a while by tossing them back at bosses. Each tap makes you avoid a contact at the last minute, so you have to have great reflexes.
4 characters are available here and 5 zones filled with traps. The perspective changes each time and I like the very nice electronic music in the background. You can obviously unlock new content and the cool thing is that once you die, you can get a life on credit, promising to watch an ad later on. The ads also let you save checkpoints, so everything is ad-based here.
Graphics are pixelated and there’s a lot of unfriendly scenery in the mix, like lava, rocks and cacti. You can play the game in portrait and landscape and while it may be frustrating at times, it’s also very fun and the lack of IAPs is great, plus the ad system. We give it a 9 out of 10 and you can download it here.
