  • Land Sliders seemed yet another one of those casual games that you install, play once and forget about. Well, in fact it was much more than that. First of all, it didn’t feel like it was using any famous recipe or cloning any title, so that’s got to count for something.

We played it on the Coolpad Modena handset and got it for free from the Play Store. Launched in September, this is a casual game, that offers randomly generated levels. You have to roam around a level and get items and accomplish objectives. You can take a platform to the next level, also randomly generated and obviously you’ll run into enemy critters.

The most interesting bit is that you don’t control the character, but rather slide the world underneath him. Of course, you can also opt to swipe around to move the bear, alien, or whatever creature you end up unlocking. There’s a very Crossy Road-ish vibe coming from this game and many characters to collect. Graphics aren’t half bad and the mechanics are a nice idea.

The creators of the game are former Halfbrick developers, so they know how to make a hit. You have to be aware of all dangers in the levels, including falling off a cliff, into water, getting hit by a bear, eaten by a dino and more. You can push critters off cliffs and then there’s the random objective to fulfill, but usually it’s about collecting items.

Each character is priced at $1, or you can spend coins to play the lottery and unlock characters for free. Each character has a star rating and can be levelled up. Controls are not very precise and I slipped off the edge of the level quite often. Menus are very smart, keeping the theme of the core gameplay.

There are very many maps and much variation here and as if this wasn’t cool enough, some of these areas sport real life coordinates, where the game makes buried some cool gifts. It’s a funny, smart and quirky game that you have to try. We give it an 8.8 out of 10 and you can get it here.
