  • Most of the WW II related titles are either shooters or some sort of tank simulators, sometimes strategy games. Well today we review a rare bird, a naval battle title called Warship Battle: 3D World War II, available for free in the Play Store and tested on the Huawei P8 Lite.

You will control a carrier, huge ships of all shapes and sizes and upgrade it as you see fit. You will fire torpedoes, machine guns and end airplanes to do some of the dirty work. In your path you’ll meet land turrets, submarines, cruisers and many other enemy units. You will have to escort and protect ships or destroy ships being escorted.

Controls are rather complex, since aside from the touch ones, you will have to tilt the device in order to change the orientation of your view and target better. 3D graphics aren’t half band and they can be tweaked up from what we showed you in the video review. Missions are quite lengthy and apparently they’re inspired by authentic WW II battles. USS Arizona, HMS Bulldog are among the giant ships to control and a good aspect about Warship Battle is that it doesn’t require an Internet connection.

Over the first missions, all I cared about was shooting and shooting. But then I had to replay missions, since I kept dying and had to learn how to defend myself. It’s quite hard to find a proper orientation while you’re being shot at from everywhere. Another important aspect is the fact that you can lose money if you fire too many bullets and fail to complete the mission.

Since I called this a simulator, I must also mention some arcade elements, like the pickups you get after destroying ships: health, cash and spare parts. The game becomes a bit hard after chapter too, but it’s very fun and quite complex. There aren’t many titles like this in the Play Store, so I really enjoyed playing it. We give it an 8.9 out of 10 and you can download it here.
