Oddworld Munch’s Oddysee Review (Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge): Return of a Classic, With Great 3D Graphics (Video)

We already reviewed an Oddworld game last year, on a Samsung high end smartphone and now it’s time for another one of their titles, also tested on a Samsung device. This time we played Oddworld Munch’s Oddysee, priced at $4 and tested on the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
The game was launched in November 2015 and it’s actually a port of a 2001 Xbox game. It was the firs game in the series to have 3D graphics and when we got it came with a 40% price reduction. Munch’s Oddysee starts Abe, the famous hero of Oddworld games, teaming up with Munch, which is a sort of chicken mixed with a cat, who has to save a bunch of creatures being held hostage.
There are a ton of actions to control here, including jumping, talking (greeting, commanding characters to work or wait) and there’s also a dedicated button for incantations that open up portals. Vending machines will provide a special type of soda pop, that makes you faster, or grants you all sorts of super powers.
For the sake of mobile release, the graphics have been upgraded and there’s also a funny background story and funny characters. Cloud saving is available, plus quite a few puzzles, that are easily solved by gathering Mudokons and having them activate levers, or other mechanisms by chanting. Once you save Mudokons you gain Quarma, which is basically another way to say karma, bringing forth a new ending to the game.
I found that the title has camera problems, as usual for a console title. Munch’s Oddysee comes with multiple endings, has nifty graphics, but it’s also pretty repetitive, from the hour or two I’ve been playing it. It’s still fun and has huge levels. We give it a 9 out of 10 and you can get it here.
