Flockers Review (Samsung Galaxy Tab A): a Twist of Lemmings, a Bit of Worms and Maybe Even a Scent of Oddworld’s Abe (Video)

  • I played with the Samsung Galaxy Tab A tablet for a bit and had the chance to toy with the game Flockers, coming from Team 17. The title is a spinoff from Worms, using the famous sheep that were weapons in the worm battles as main characters. They behave pretty much like Lemmings…

The title costs $2 and allows you to control sheep and guide them among traps and all sorts of dangers. There are spikes here, buzz saws and deep pits to fall into. You can access teleporters and dodge the attack of robot bosses, guided by worms. Flockers features 60 levels and you can apply special powers to sheep, like the ability to fly up walls, or jumping from one platform to the other, or even exploding to remove obstacles.

The basic feature is the one that allows you to freeze time, in a certain limit, in order to plan your move. You can overlap sheep to make a sort of stairway of wooly creatures and hop on them. In order to apply the same power to more than one sheep, you can draw a rectangle on the screen, which is pretty intuitive. 20 achievements are available here and 18 sheep, each with their own looks.

You have to take the sheep to the end of the level intact, if possible and also find a golden sheep and do that in a reasonable amount of time. If you reach all these three targets, you’ll get stars, like in Angry Birds. Secret levels can be unlocked and there are also switches to push, to activate contraptions, dangerous or not. Control is a bit imprecise, especially since moving the camera and selecting the sheep have similar gestures.

There’s a cute music in the background and this honestly feels like a new Leo’s Fortune, but less complex. The final grade is 9 out of 10 for Flockers and you can download the game here.
