  • Google announced officially this week that the photos and videos you have on Google+ Photos is now accessible on Google Drive. This brings us closer to the already announced split of Google+ into Photos and Streams.

The Drive for Android and iOS apps, plus the Web app will have a brand new photos section. Users will thus be able to manage any type of file directly from Drive and this may actually be useful if you want to access that photo from an older vacation, stuck on an older phone for example. Google+ continues to allow users to store, edit and share pictures in the meantime.

Google claims that the new pics on Google+ will instantly appear on Google Drive, while it may take a few weeks for entire libraries to pop up. The automatic camera backups from the smartphone can now be directed to Google Drive, too. You’ll be able to see the Google Photos options in Drive’s slide out menu, so be sure to check that out.
