Real Steel Champions Review (Amazon Fire Phone): Rock ’em, Sock ’em Battles With Lots of Customization (Video)

There have been a few games related to the Real Steel movie ever since it came out a few years ago. Most of them are based on the idea of rock ’em, sock ’em robot battles and so is Real Steel Champions. We played it on the Amazon Fire Phone and had a blast.
The game is a freemium, that includes an energy system and timers for upgrades. Reliance Games have created a title that allows you to customize your robot however you please with varied arms, legs, torsos and heads. They do cost quite a bit to be honest. You can record an intro for your robot and you’ll be playing by using a D Pad to move the robot around and a couple of buttons for attacks.
You can perform uppercuts, regular hits and parry, so there are 3 buttons to play with. Every once in a while you can trigger a special combo, or a defensive combo to counter the enemy’s special move. I liked the cool music in the background and the attitude each robot has. It’s very hard to get bored by the bots, since they’re very varied. Fights are simple and don’t last very long and aside from the career mode, there’s also the Challenges.
You can share your uniquely colored robot on Facebook and keep in mind that at the end of the fight, when the bot is done, you can apply a sort of fatality, that usually ends with the head being ripped off. Quite a fun title, that depends a bit too much on the mathematics of upgrades, which in turn depends on cash. We’ll give it an 8.3 out of 10 and you can download it here.
