Rival Knights Review (LG G Pro 2): Very Nice Jousting Game from Gameloft (Video)

  • I have to say that I’m happy to finally see an original game from Gameloft, a jousting simulator called Rival Knights. I tested it on the LG G Pro 2 phablet and was quite pleased by it. We’re dealing with a title centered around the medieval competition called jousting.

This game is available for free and it has nice graphics. It allows you to play a campaign filled with single player competitions, but also multiplayer battles. There’s even a bit of story added here, as every noble you fight has some background to unveil. There’s a freemium aspect here, that’s revealed via a bunch of seals that you’ll use with each joust. There are 6 seals available in single player, so you can only do 6 battles at one time, then you have to wait for them to respawn.

You can upgrade your horse, lance, helmet or armor or buy new ones, but be wary about the weight of the equipment, since not all horses can carry as much. The gameplay goes like this: the countdown beings (3, 2, 1) and you have to tap the screen at the right time to get a head start with great speed. Then you have to get a meter right, as it spins around a semicircle area, much like a FIFA freekick minigame.

And then you have to hit the chink in the rival’s armor with your lance precisely. Then he either falls from the horse or you do. The ragdoll physics are very good and animations are well done. Stats matter each time, so the competitor with the best gear wins. This is a pretty repetitive title, but it’s fun, so it gets a solid 8.7 out of 10. You can download it here.
