RoomScan App Draws a Floorplan Just by Tapping on Every Wall (Video)

  • RoomScan is a cool new app that automatically generates floorplans by tapping the phone on every wall in order to draw a perfect sketch. That’s easily explained with the aid of the video below.

    This piece of software relies on the handset’s built in GPS and gyroscope to determine distances and the orientation of walls. It’s also pretty accurate, to within half a foot or so, so its developers did quite a fine job. There’s also a Pro version of the RoomScan app, that goes for $5 extra and lets you specify distances.

    You can use a separate laser measure to keep things in check and more precise, but you’ll have a floor plan ready in no time like this. You can also place doors and windows easily with the Pro version. It would be cool if the resulting floor plan could be exporting to some graphics software… Also, in other news, this app is only available on iOS right now, but I’m pretty sure an Android version is in the works.
