  • Umi is a game we recently played on the Oppo Find 7a, a side scrolling endless runner that reminds me of Dark Guardians. The game costs $1, but at least it doesn’t have ads. It’s also kind of hard…

The game has platformer elements and it has intuitive controls: Back, Forward, Jump and an Attack button. You can pick up various weapons, like dual pistols, sniper gun, shuriken, the usual blue blade sword and blunderbuss. You need to hit balloons to get the weapons and powerups and you will encounter a series of enemies, coming in waves.

They include mushrooms, locusts, owls and other creatures rendered in a devilish way. The main character is a cute seagull and the background music feels like a simple MIDI from the age of poliphonic ringtones. The enemies tend to appear out of nowhere, which makes the game hard. There are no in app purchases, no ads here and you’ve got 3 lives to waste, as you get killed.

We give this game an 8 out of 10 and it’s a fun endeavour, but quite a hard one. You can download the game here.
