VLC to Get Chromecast Support According to Leak

  • VLC is finally getting Chromecast support, although this feature has been coming for the past 7 months or so. The latest leak in this regard involves a Git repo changelog, that mentions the fact that the next VLC release will offer Chromecast support.

    VLC is used by many people on their PCs, laptops and even mobile and tablets, because it’s able to play almost any format. Last year the folks behind VLC promised to offer support for Chromecast as soon as possible, but the waiting went on and on and nothing happened. The VLC 3.0 leaked changelog shows a Stream Output section where Chromecast is mentioned, as shown below.

    VLC is an open source project, so people can easily check out what’s happening with their plans online. The update may come in the next weeks and not months, with a bit of luck. It’s important to mention that last month VLC released a preview build for their Android TV app, that still had a lot of bugs, but it was a beta release.
