WhatsApp for Android Gets Material Design Update, Cleaner Layout and Fresh Icons

WhatsApp has only now received a Material Design upgrade on Android and it seems to look more evolved than the previous version. The update hasn’t yet come to Google Play, so you need to install the latest version from the WhatsApp site.
WhatsApp for Android version 2.12.38 comes with a deep green title bar, that features 3 main tabs: calls, chats and contacts. There are new buttons in the chat window, used to record voice messages and also new options in the attachment option pop up. Group chat information and profiles look nicer now and everything is cleaner and there’s a large cover image that shrinks to a title bar with the dominant color from that image.
The animations have also been changed, continuing the visual overhaul. The fresh iconography is also welcome, but I’m surprised to see that the status bar and header bar aren’t of similar colors. At the end of March came a WhatsApp for Android version that allowed users to call other users. VoIP calls were thus enabled, aside from regular phone calls.
