WWE Immortals Review (Huawei Mate 8): Tapped Into the Vein and Vibe of MK X and Injustice, Slightly Lacking

Nether Realm has been on a roll over the past years, ever since Injustice, that was their big mark on the world of gaming. Ever since then fighting game means swiping and tapping your way into good looking combos. The recipe is unchanged for WWE Immortals, that gets our review below.
We played the game on the Huawei Mate 8 handset and got it for free from the Play Store. We’re playing with WWE wrestlers this time, not DC Comics characters, Scorpion or Sub-zero. Worry not, as the characters have their own mythos, special powers and combos, with fantastic looking moves like electrocution, tornadoes, ripping throats or Paige biting off heads.
Just like in MK X, we have energy levels for each character and once the energy runs out, you have to wait, pay the premium currency or pay real money. Of course, once you assemble a team of fighters, you can replace the energy depleted ones. The game is a 3 versus 3 affair, with wrestlers tapped in and out of the battle, their own combos and special moves.
Unreal Engine 3 puts everything in motion here and the animations are quite great, but it feels like Nether Realm didn’t work as much on the backgrounds, as they should have. John Cena, The Rock, The Undertaker and more famous fighters are here, with elementals and the ability to equip items, that give them perks and percentage level boosts.
Characters are available as playing cards and playing cards also offer unlocks for attacks and equipment. It’s a really simple system, that works, but cards are rather expensive, so this is where grinding comes into play. I had a blast playing this game and the PVP action happens with ghosts, not real players, if you’re wondering.
We give this game an 8.7 out of 10 and you can download it here.
